Create MBOX or EML output for mail applications and workflows that support these portable email formats.

How It Compares

Enolsoft PST Viewer

Typical use

A long-running Mac PST viewer with global search, attachment preview, EML, VCF, ICS, and PDF features offered through a recurring subscription.

Great Apps advantage

PST Archive includes free unrestricted browsing, MBOX and CSV output, explicit machine-readable reports, and a one-time Pro unlock instead of a subscription.

PST Converter Pro

Typical use

A one-time-purchase Mac converter focused on moving PST mail, contacts, and calendars into common migration formats.

Great Apps advantage

PST Archive combines free in-app browsing with selective export, PDF and CSV output, issue reporting, and broader mixed-item preservation.

Legacy Outlook for Mac

Typical use

Microsoft's legacy Outlook can import PST data into its own local mailbox, but support is scheduled to end in October 2026 and the workflow requires an eligible Outlook or Microsoft 365 license.

Great Apps advantage

PST Archive reads the source directly, requires no Outlook installation, and exports portable files rather than importing everything into a live Outlook profile.

Online PST converters

Typical use

Browser services may require mailbox archives to be uploaded before conversion and commonly impose file-size or processing limits.

Great Apps advantage

PST content stays on your Mac, with no archive upload, cloud conversion, account, or server-side mailbox processing.

What Users Say

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I open a PST file on Mac without Outlook?

Yes. PST Archive reads supported Outlook PST files directly on macOS, so Microsoft Outlook is not required for browsing, searching, or exporting the archive.

Does PST Archive upload my email archive?

No. PST contents are viewed and converted locally on your Mac. The app does not upload messages, attachments, contacts, calendar items, or generated output to a conversion server.

Which PST items can I view?

The viewer supports ordinary mail, contacts, contact groups, calendar events, tasks, notes, journals, and other mapped items inside the PST folder hierarchy. Unsupported or uncertain records are reported rather than silently treated as complete.

Which export formats are available?

Choose Archive, EML, MBOX, CSV, or PDF. Applicable non-mail records can also be saved as VCF, ICS, TXT, RTF, and JSON, with reports and supported attachments alongside the output.

Can I search inside a PST file?

Yes. Search the current folder by item title, sender, or recipient. The viewer does not claim body-wide or cross-folder full-text indexing.

Can PST Archive open password-protected PST files?

Known PST passwords can be entered and validated locally for supported archives. The password stays in the open session and is not stored in reports, preferences, or Keychain. This is password validation, not password recovery.

Does conversion modify the original PST?

No. PST Archive opens the source read-only and creates each export in a new output directory. Keep the original PST because portable exports are not a replacement PST or a universally lossless backup.

What is included for free?

Scanning and read-only browsing are free. Sample exports include the first 10 ordinary items per type across the PST. A one-time PST Archive Pro purchase removes those sample limits.

Is PST Archive Pro a subscription?

No. PST Archive Pro is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase. The app displays Apple's current localized price before purchase.

Can I use the exported MBOX with Apple Mail?

PST Archive creates one mboxrd mailbox per selected mail folder. Apple Mail and other compatible clients can import MBOX files, but import behavior is controlled by the receiving application.
